In Akwesasne, in the state of New York on the border of Quebec and Ontario, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe operates an agricultural program whose mission is to help community members source local food. In addition to implementing a composting system, they raise 400 hens whose eggs are sold. They also raise piglets which, once fattened, are distributed individually to community members. The organization also supports many community members in their agricultural activities.
