Maison Uashteu: A social catering service for the community

In addition to providing a social catering service, the Maison Uashteu offers several services to support vulnerable people in Mashteuiatsh. They offer emergency food assistance, meals on wheels and a clothing bank.

The on-the-go catering service showcases traditional foods, particularly through a partnership with the community museum. During the summer, the Maison Uashteu supplies the museum with bannock bread and blueberry jam. The on-the-go catering service also offers a range of balanced and diverse ready-to-eat meals that are available at the community convenience store.

The revenue generated by the catering service funds services to the community such as emergency food assistance, a shared fridge and a clothing bank. This lucrative business also allows for economies of scale that benefit community activities. The food distribution service can save money by sharing on-the-go catering service orders, and the surplus food can be placed in the shared fridge.
