Cultivating the future in Opitciwan

In Opitciwan, the community rallied around food security with the goal of better feeding its population. It all started with a community garden, which was later expanded to include a food security garden. Through these two gardens, families can grow their own vegetables, and other vegetables are donated to community members.

As for the education sector, it worked to implement educational activities related to healthy eating. They set up a greenhouse and hired an agricultural technician to develop agricultural skills among youth. Moreover, those who participate in the program will be able to earn a horticultural production diploma at the end of their program. The economic development sector is currently working on establishing commercial greenhouses, which will supply fresh produce to Opitciwan’s grocery store and businesses.
